If you are into keeping track of your cycling workouts, the Garmin Edge 305 is great. Just turn it on and start the timer. It keeps track of everything, including altitude and feet ascended and descended, percent of grade and calories. When you are done just plug it into a USB port on your pc and download all your stats. It even shows your route in Google Earth. The only two minor issues I have are the display isn’t as crisp and clear as some newer lcd displays. It’s ok but could be better. The other thing is the software doesn’t let you export data into a spreadsheet. I got a factory refurb with heart rate and cadence for a great price. Could not tell from brand new.

Basically, this does everything it advertises to do very well, and for the sale price I paid for it, I got an incredible value. The only criticism I have is that you cannot have the speedometer switch to the magnetic mode when the GPS signal gets weak (under an overpass, etc.) — but, having said that, the ability of the device to maintain a GPS signal is pretty admirable. The software that comes with the device is sufficient.

I do like it over the other 305 model (Forerunner?), just by virtue of the fact that it has a bigger screen, and I can carry it with me whether I’m biking, running, or even playing hokey (for the HR monitor).

I bought this as a gift for my fiance so I’m not the one actually using this item. He loves it though and had an issue with it a few months after he had it and called Garmin customer service and they took care of it immediately. Just wanted to let others know that Garmin is great with the customer service on the refurbished item!

This is a nice tool for evaluating your ride performance. The heart rate monitor is a valuable part of this. Even with some sensor gel it seems to take a few minutes into my ride to establish good connectivity. Once established though, it maintains the connection through the ride. The cadence sensor is simply a nice to have item. The device works well. The software could be better. It would be nice if the data could be separated into a some sort of spreadsheet format for comparison. Maybe the upper echelon models do this? I have bought a number of factory refurbished electronic items and have had good service from them. In fact, when buying electronics, I look for the factory refurbished option. For the price I paid, I’d recommend the Garmin Edge 305. I think it’s a good deal compared to the other bike computers out there.

I bought the 305 edge with Heart Rate and Cadence/Speed sensor bundle at the end of May. Instalation and set up was pretty easy and as long as the device is working it is a great training tool, BUT…….

By mid Augest the unit died,(locked up, loud buzzing, wouldn’t reset, ect), dealing with Garmin is no fun at all. After several back and forth emails in which they gave me lots of instructions of what to try, they seemed to ignore the fact the unit was fubar. Finaly I was able to send the unit back, got a repleacment pretty fast. Then about a week after I got the new unit the cadence/speed sensor died, same back and forth with Garmin, finaly they sent me a new cadence/speed sensor. Well that one has worked for about 2 weeks and it died this morning.

I am done with Garmin products, I can not recomend this product to anyone.

Product received very promptly in excellent condition-all parts included. Easy installation and operation so far is flawless.

Although this unit was factory refurbished it looked new coming out of the box. I have had no problems with it whatsoever. The kit is complete and has everything you need (unit, mount, heart rate sensor, cadence sensor, and software). Buying the factory refurbished unit brought the Edge 305 into my price range and I am very happy with my purchase.

I liked to purchase Garmin edge 705 but as u know its cost more than 500$ & if you want to record , monitor & analyse your performance & improvement and important for you that how much you want to pay! the best choice for U is Garmin edge 305 . Garmin edge 305 has all feature that you need if you compare with 605 or 705 just doesn’t have Map and color display . Overall i found this one which is new but has been refurbished in the factory .

This GPS gives you tons of information at your fingertip on the device itself, but it’s stored information and the software that comes with it provide you with everything you could ask for about your ride(s)! Just a fantastic piece of equipment for the cyclist!

I must admit that I had high expectations for this product even with some of the less than stellar reviews that I had seen on this site and others. I am very pleased to say that my expectations were met and greatly exceeded. I had been using a Specialized wired bike computer and had long wished for an integrated heart rate monitor and altimeter since I live in the Rockies and do a lot of climbing. The first couple of rides I found that the heart rate monitor numbers were all over the place and very innacurate. After a little research I found the suggestion to utilize a litte gel on the band instead of saliva or water and that has made all the difference. I purchased Spectra Electrode Gel from [...] and haven’t had a problem since. As to the many complaints about battery life, I did a 4 hour ride today with ‘every second’ data recording turned on and the battery meter did not move from the full position. One little complaint that I do have is the lack of a persistent odometer on the device, but as others have pointed out, this information is available in the Garmin Training Center Software.
